Used electric cars now find buyers nearly two weeks sooner than used gas cars, according to a new iSeeCars analysis of more than 1.5 million one- to five-year-old vehicles. The average used EV sells in 41.9 days, while a gas model needs 54.8.

Tesla would seem the obvious leader, since three of its models rank among the five used cars with the biggest price increases over the past year. It isn’t. The fastest-selling used EV is an Audi that typically finds a buyer in under a month, no Tesla appears in the top 10, and a Toyota bZ4X and a Honda Prologue both sell faster than any Tesla in the study. The full ranking also shows a clear pattern: compact and midsize crossovers fill the top of the list, while large SUVs and pickups sit far longer.

Used EVs Now Sell Faster Than Gas Cars

The average used EV now sells in 41.9 days, down from 46.6 a year earlier, according to the iSeeCars study, while gas vehicles slowed from 45.7 days to 54.8. Used EV prices rose 9.8% over the same period to an average of $32,533, which now puts them $579 above the average used gas car.

iSeeCars links the shift to fuel costs, and gas prices line up with that: regular gasoline averaged $4.33 a gallon in September, the highest September average on record, according to AAA.
